Explore the ruins of an ancient Roman town and learn about its history before the eruption
Step into life before the Vesuvius eruption with a visit to Herculaneum (Ercolano in Italian). This ancient Roman town lies in the shadows of Mount Vesuvius and was once wealthier than Pompeii. Both towns were destroyed by volcanic flows in 79 AD. Pompeii is well-preserved but Herculaneum is even more so - the eruption preserved doors, bedding, and even food here. This UNESCO World Heritage Site allows you to explore several villas and taverns and examine the mosaics and frescoes preserved for centuries by volcanic water, ash, and debris.
Dig up the ancient secrets of Herculaneum with an archaeologist
We liked the tour even in the heat! Interesting angle from an archeologist. Luciano is very good and charismatic. His English was hard to understand at times but he has so much information and used visuals to explain his points, so that was helpful. And heβs funny!
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable, great at providing so much context about the site and making sure we saw all the highlights. The archaeological site itself was very impressive and worth the trip.
I would highly recommend getting a guided tour!
See cities untouched by time and enjoy a guided tour led by an archaeologist
This experience was wonderful. Vincenzo was heartfelt, humorous and very informative. He displayed vast knowledge on all matters and answered every question our group had very concisely. The length of the tour was appropriate and everything was as advertised. Fun times!
Great option for limited time. We saw the
highlights of Pompeii, and then we went in a shuttle bus to Herculaneum and saw the highlights there as well. Our tour guide Sergio was excellent, very helpful and informative. Highly recommended.
Wear a pair of smart glasses for an immersive tour at Herculaneum!
The guide was excellent and the use of the AR a great way to get a better idea of what the ruins were like as a living place.
The tour guide was very helpful, kind and patient with someone with a slight mobility problem.
Alexia was a very kind guide.
Interesting AR device to have a better understanding of Herculaneum. Sometimes the AR device had to be reset but nothing dramatic.
Witness history at the foot of Mount Vesuvius
Booked the tickets 1 week prior my trip in Naples and when I got at Herculaneum, just had to go to the tickets office and reclaim the physical one. All went smooth and all the information I have been asked for was in the file received from Tiqets.
I definitely recommended visiting Herculaneum. It t...
Pre booking wasn't necessarily an advantage, though the place was well organised. There is no cafe. What is described as a food court is a room of vending machines with drinks and
sandwiches, though there were only 4 left when we visited @12.30pm. Toilet facilities were good. The site itself is ama...

No commentary from guide on bus; the audio guide I had booked was only an app, so I had to buy their audio, which did not match the site very well, some of the best buildings were closed or walled off for visitors. Long waits at bus stops coming and going.
